MATH
The Mathematics Department at Lakewood High School is dedicated to fostering a solid foundation in mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Our mission is to prepare students for success in both their academic and personal lives by equipping them with the mathematical tools and skills necessary for a wide range of careers and post-secondary educational opportunities.
Our department plays a central role in supporting the school's goals of academic excellence, by offering a curriculum that aligns with state standards and prepares students for standardized tests such as the EOC, SAT, and ACT exams. We provide opportunities for all students to engage with mathematics at an appropriate level. Additionally, we aim to cultivate an appreciation for mathematics through our Mu Alpha Theta club.
Our department offers a comprehensive selection of courses designed to meet the needs of students: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Probability and statistics and Precalculus.
In addition to our regular course offerings, the Mathematics Department provides a variety of support and enrichment opportunities:
- Tutoring and Academic Support: We offer after-school tutoring for students who need additional help in mastering mathematical concepts.
- Math Club and Competitions: Students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities such as Mu Alpha Theta Math Club, where they can engage in problem-solving activities and compete in regional and national math competitions.
The Mathematics Department at Lakewood High School is committed to creating an inclusive, engaging, and challenging learning environment where all students can succeed in mathematics.
